Should the printer be plugged into a surge protector?

Protect your laser printer from electrical line problems. Electrical spikes, overvoltages and surges can damage the printer's power supply. Equip your printer with a good quality surge protector. In the event of an electrical spike, such as a lightning strike, it is essential the printer be adequately grounded. Make certain your printer is used only on a grounded electrical circuit. We recommend that you turn off your laser printer every evening when you leave the office, perhaps by switching off the surge protector power bar (unless the printer is networked and to be shared by multiple users).

As you begin to learn about protection from electrical line problems, you will find there are four kind of protection available today. Electrical protector choices now include:

  • Standby UPS Systems
  • Power Control Centers
  • Surge Suppressors
  • Surge Protectors

Your optimal choice will depend on the size of your systems installation, the criticality of your application, and the printer availability required.
